SAVE OUR SCOUT GROUP
Our current hut has now become irreparable following the “storms” of January 2007 and as a result of its age.
In light of this we have launched our largest ever fundraising camp.
Through our "SAVE OUR SCOUT GROUP" campaign we hope to raise £120,000 to enable us to build a new scout hut (click here for details of our ideas for the new hut)
We are currently operating out of Holy Trinity School Hall and Church Hall (for which we are very grateful). However due to the amount of equipment we have and the type of activities we offer, a base at Hill Street is required. Without this the quality of scouting offered at Gee Cross will only deteriorate and our attendances will slowly fall. If we don’t take action now in the not too distant future Scouting in Gee Cross will be under threat.
How the capaign works.
The magnitude of this fundraising campaign is such that if we were to fund this build through our normal range of fundraising, leaving aside the fact that we will still have to fund the day to day running of the group. It would take 150 x Bag packing weekends to raise the funds (which at a maximum of 3 per year is 50 year) or 120 bonfire night (and as this is only once per year this would obviously take 120 years).
As such we are approaching this from a new angle. Rather than asking the same few people to give a lot, we are attempting to ask a lot of people to give a small amount.
We are asking people to sign up for a suggested standing order of £4.25 per month for a 5 year period. We need approximately 400 people to achieve our dream.
If we secure this level of monthly cashflow, then through a combination of fund matching loans, money we have already rasied, insurance money, and delayed completion of some of the interior, then we should be able to start work this year and should be able to open the doors and start meeting back at Hill Street within this Scoutings Centenary year.
If you wish to enter, there is a monthly draw *, whereby for every donor who wishes to enter the draw we put 25p into a pot and then this amount is randomly distributed to one lucky donor.
In doing this not only will we get a hut to continue our Scouting in, it will free up leaders time currently used for fundraising event, to allow them to concentrate on activities for the kids which is what we are here for.
